Recreational Sports Network Home
Welcome to the Recreational Sports Network, a special interest group for alumni and friends who want to stay informed and involved with the happenings of the Department of Recreational Sports.
Mission of the Network
To promote, support, and encourage involvement of Recreational Sports alumni, friends and family in activities and endeavors of the University of Minnesota.
Goals of the Network
1. Identify and increase the visibility of University of Minnesota Department of Recreational Sports programs and projects amongst University of Minnesota alumni, faculty, staff, students, family and friends.
2. Support the University of Minnesota Department of Recreational Sports and its programs through the creation of professional and social networking opportunities and sponsorship of events that promote a sense of fun, community, and pride in the University of Minnesota.
3. Support the University of Minnesota Department of Recreational Sports programming and services through volunteering and fundraising.
4. Link University of Minnesota Alumni Association members to the University of Minnesota Department of Recreational Sports alumni, family and friends.
What We Know About Our Alumni
National research shows that students who are involved in out of classroom experiences in their college careers, particularly those involved in Recreational Sports:
- • have higher grade point averages, have higher graduation and retention rates
- • are more socially integrated into the campus community
- • have a greater sense of affiliation with their institution
- • and feel better about their overall collegiate experiences than those students who are not involved.
Further, students' direct involvement in Recreational Sports shows a positive change through that involvement in the following personal development skills: leadership, time management, organizational skills, multi-tasking, communication, interpersonal relationships, and self confidence and image.
Out of classroom experiences that students had while in college are among the most remembered throughout one's post-collegiate years. It is the goal of the Department of Recreational Sports to not only maintain these standards, but to give opportunities for practical application in the future.
