ADVANCED LEVEL POSITIONS

Advanced level positions are a great way to gain the highest amount of student responsibility within the Department of Recreational Sports. A sound knowledge of departmental policies, programs and procedures combined with specific qualities and certfications will be required for employment. Advanced level positions will also require a prospective employee to give specific examples of his/her qualifications for the position. Applicants must be well spoken, comfortable with supervising peers, and proficient writers. All advanced level positions require student employees to be trained in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens. For students that do not already posess these certifications, training will be provided by the department upon being hired.
Facility Program Assistant - St. Paul

Job Description
The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for a qualified individual to fill the St. Paul Gymnasium Facility Program Assistant position. The St. Paul Gymnasium Facility Program Assistant will assist in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Provides customer service to St. Paul Gym members as needed
  • Manage Locker operations (i.e. review all sales; schedule, coordinate and staff locker cleanouts; update locker database and locker book as needed; and correct day-to-day problems that arise)
  • Assist the Assistant Director with interviewing, hiring, and training new employees. Take the lead in training new and promoted staff, as well as monitor performance and follow up as needed
  • Assist the Assistant Director in scheduling, preparing, and presenting information at monthly staff meetings and make-up meetings
  • Assist the Assistant Director in scheduling, cleaning, and inventorying U-card Operations and staffing.
  • Updating and managing Family Day program and information on a weekly basis prior to Sundays (i.e. uploading digital family photos, inputting registration information, checking camera batteries, and informing new staff of Family Day procedure)
  • Assist the Assistant Director with rentals as needed
  • Inventory equipment and supplies related to facility operations (i.e. liquid and bar soap; towels and equipment wipes; and rental equipment such as basketballs, racquets, and volleyballs)
  • Copy forms and brochures, as well as updating student staff work schedule as needed
  • Attend meetings and professional development opportunities as designated by the Assistant Director
  • .Manage Lost and Found items
  • Assist the Assistant Director in the balancing of the daily deposit from sales and rentals, in the settlement of credit card machine sales, and in the weekly reconcilement deposits
  • Coordinate with other programs (i.e. fitness, aquatics, youth programs…) on the needs and requests for facility related matters
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Director

Job Requirements
All student employees are required to be trained in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens. For students that do not already possess these certifications, training will be provided by the department upon being hired. Other requirements related to the position include:

  • Currently enrolled as a student of the University of Minnesota Twin – Cities
  • Be willing to work a minimum of 20-25 hours per week
  • A desire to work in service oriented recreational sports setting is required
  • Previous experience as a St. Paul Gymnasium employee
  • Leadership, organizational, self-motivation and teamwork skills
