ADVANCED LEVEL POSITIONS

Advanced level positions are a great way to gain the highest amount of student responsibility within the Department of Recreational Sports. A sound knowledge of departmental policies, programs and procedures combined with specific qualities and certfications will be required for employment. Advanced level positions will also require a prospective employee to give specific examples of his/her qualifications for the position. Applicants must be well spoken, comfortable with supervising peers, and proficient writers. All advanced level positions require student employees to be trained in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens. For students that do not already posess these certifications, training will be provided by the department upon being hired.
Fitness Management Program Assistant - St. Paul

Job Description
The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for a qualified individual to fill the Fitness Management Program Assistant position.  This position is directly supervised by the Fitness Coordinator, and will assist in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Serve as liaison between the fitness coordinator and St. Paul Gym student staff
  • Assist the fitness coordinator with the daily operations of the St. Paul Gym fitness center.  Enforce all fitness-related policies and procedures.  Execute risk management plan.
  • Organize and execute equipment orientations for new members
  • Coordinate assessment office scheduling.  Assist personal trainers at St. Paul Gym with logistical and special event needs
  • Coordinate continuing education workshops for facility supervisor staff    
  • Maintain fitness center inventory.   Making recommendations for fitness center purchasing.  
  • Serve as liaison between St. Paul Gym and equipment technician staff

Job Requirements
To be eligible for hire applicant must have been employed at St. Paul Gym for at least two academic semesters serving as facility supervisor.  Minneapolis student employees must have been employed for at least two academic semesters serving in either one of the following capacities:  fitness attendant, fitness specialist or personal trainer. 

All student employees are required to be trained in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens. For students that do not already possess these certifications, training will be provided by the department upon being hired. Other requirements related to the position include:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Minnesota.
  • Able to work about 10-20 hours per week
