University of Minnesota Showboat
This summer we will explore the storytelling process with the cast of the U of M’s Showboat Players from The Count of Monte Cristo. Students will learn more than just theatre when they take a trip back to 19th century France and participate in a action-packed drama will lead to writer Alexandre Dumas’ creation of his most beloved works This workshop is for students who love adventure. This interactive experience gives students an opportunity to be entertained and to entertain at a comfort level.
The Raptor Center
Established in 1974, the Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota College Of Veterinary Medicine specializes in the medical care, rehabilitation, conservation, and study of eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons.
The Equine Center
The Equine Center represents the U’s dedication to an expanded and comprehensive equine program. Now horses will benefit from some of the best in equine care, research, and veterinary education found anywhere in the world.
The equine center is designed by horse people for horses. The unique design of the Equine Center provides a functional high-tech space for performance and lameness examinations and reproduction therapies. With its indoor arena, high speed treadmill, digital radiography, and access to bone, CT, and soon MRI scans, the Center allows an unprecedented examination of a horse’s performance, facilitating detection of subtle abnormalities. The Center’s creative design allows for future expansion so that the entire equine program can be incorporated into the facility.
The Old Dutch Potato Chip Factory
Since 1934, Old Dutch has been delivering fine snacks fresh from the Heart of the Upper Midwest. Join us as we tour the factory, learn how potato chips are made, packaged and delivered all over the world. Tasting is required!
The Weisman Art Museum
Housed in a striking stainless steel and brick building designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Weisman Art Museum offers an educational and friendly museum experience for all who visit. The museum’s collection features early 20th century American artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Marsden Hartley, as well as a diverse selection of contemporary art.
Demonstrations, Tours and Hands On Activities
Visit the Electrical Engineering Department and learn about electricity with Dr. Bethany Stadler. Hang out in the bug museum or prowl through the hidden areas in Mariucci Arena. The University of Minnesota and surrounding areas have a wealth of kid friendly places to explore and enjoy. You’ll go to the zoo, visit the airport and learn about our state’s rich history at the Capitol and Governor’s mansion.
