Discover a world of hands-on interactive fun with enrichment topics that feature active participation and imagination. Kids' University camps combine 2.5 hours of academic enrichment a day, introducing the fascinating worlds of agriculture, language, math or science in a format that focuses on fun. The rest of the day is spent playing sports or games, swimming, rock climbing, or exploring the many facets of the University of Minnesota, resulting in a great, well-rounded experience.
Registration for programs will begin on February 9, 2009 and will continue until all camps are full. Please note that many camps fill quickly!

American Sign Language [back to top] Talk with your hands and listen with your eyes. Learn one of the most commonly used languages in the United States, and find out more about those who use it. Campers will explore some of the unique inventions for everyday living used by people who cannot hear. Through fun activities, games and practice, campers will even be learning to ‘speak’ with their mouths full without being rude! |

Giddy Up! Horsemanship [back to top] Discover the University of Minnesota's Equine Center and the important services it provides to horses. Campers will explore the arena, meet some 'patients' and see the special equipment used for testing and treatment. Campers will also learn how to be safe around these large animals, to identify different breeds by their color and markings and how to tell if a horse is healthy by looking at their skeleton and muscles. Activities also include horse management, feeding, and basic grooming. This is not a riding camp, though the week will end with a ride at a local ranch. A waiver for Windy Ridge Ranch is required in order to participate in riding. No open toed shoes are allowed for this program. |

Yard & Garden Sleuths [back to top] Have fun solving garden mysteries and more in this hands-on, down-and-dirty experience. Why does that leaf have polka dots? What ate the petals off that flower? What is soil made of? What's inside that seed? What are insects and butterflies doing on those plants? Use the St Paul campus gardens and greenhouses to carry out your detective work. You'll find clues with the basics of soil and you'll continue through flower and vegetable harvest. Being a sleuth for special flowers and possible pests can be challenging. Dress for a mess and dig in! |
