All the courses in this section are presented in cooperation with the University Of Minnesota Institute Of Technology Center for Educational Programs.
Numeric Patterns
Mathematically promising students will investigate the framework of numerical systems including place value, number sense, and fraction concepts. This investigation, which uses visualization and modeling, is an exciting and interesting way to discover the language of mathematics. Learn about the creation and uses of early number systems and algebraic patterns while investigating the concept of encoding.

Orienteering
Investigate how early explorers combined math and star gazing to figure where on earth they were. Learn how explorers established true geographic north without a compass. Consider the basis for a compass and the ideas behind mapmaking, navigation and orienteering as you are introduced to spherical geometry.

Gear It Up!
Explore aspects of the theories of motion, force, and speed while constructing real-world gear ratio models and examining the patterns they create. Learn about the relationships between fractions and factoring through a variety of hands-on activities, using visualization and modeling to discover the principles that make the world go ‘round.

Geometric Art
Use creative mathematical thinking to transform patterns and shapes into art. Explore the properties of polygons, platonic solids and other two- and three-dimensional shapes. Design unique patterns and construct models in a real-world exploration of the art of geometry.

Math in Motion
This program is designed to motivate mathematically promising students to visualize the related principles of space, shape, and motion in a challenging, interactive exploration of geometry and measurement. You will be introduced to appropriate terminology, and discover the details of volume, area and perimeter, and physics of motion while constructing models and engaging in kinesthetic activities.
