The University of Minnesota’s new Equine Center is offering a summer camp on horsemanship. In this camp, participants will learn how to be safe around these large animals, to identify different breeds by their color and markings, and how to tell if a horse is healthy by looking at their skeleton and muscles. Campers will also receive instruction on horse management; what horses should eat how to feed them as well as gaining an understanding of basic grooming and upkeep required when owning a horse. Campers will learn about the most common equine illnesses and what to look for; as well as the basics of equine first aid. You will tour the new equine center; see the surgical facility and watch horses performing in the water and high speed treadmills.
